Moscow denounces reported strikes on Iranian leadership and calls for immediate de-escalation.

Vladimir Putin Condemns Escalation in Iran Crisis

Russian President Vladimir Putin has strongly condemned the latest escalation involving Iran, criticizing what Moscow described as targeted strikes against senior Iranian leadership.

In a message addressed to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and published by the Kremlin, Putin characterized the reported attacks as a “cynical violation” of international law and fundamental norms. He reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to its partnership with Tehran and expressed solidarity with the Iranian people.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry said it was “outraged” by the reported targeting of high-ranking Iranian officials, reiterating Moscow’s firm opposition to political assassinations and attacks against leaders of sovereign states. Officials warned that continued military action risks pushing the Middle East toward broader instability.

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also held a phone call with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi, underscoring ongoing coordination between the two governments.

Russia and Iran deepened ties last year through a strategic cooperation agreement covering political, economic, and defense sectors. The current crisis has placed that alliance under renewed international scrutiny as regional tensions intensify.
