Israel relocated its official government aircraft to Germany for security reasons over the weekend, Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s spokesperson confirmed on Monday.
Israel relocated its official government aircraft, the Boeing 767 known as the “Wing of Zion,” to Germany over the weekend as a precautionary security measure, officials confirmed Monday.
According to a spokesperson for German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, the aircraft landed at a Berlin airport on Saturday with only the flight crew on board. No Israeli officials were present during the transfer.
Flight tracking data indicated that the plane departed Israel early Saturday, circled over the Mediterranean Sea for several hours, and arrived in Berlin later that evening. The aircraft is outfitted with advanced secure communications systems and is used for overseas travel by Israel’s president and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Authorities stressed that the relocation was strictly precautionary. Online speculation had briefly suggested that Netanyahu might be traveling to Germany, but officials clarified that no senior figures were aboard the aircraft.
