Guinea says President Doumbouya is healthy despite absence

Guinea’s President Mamady Doumbouya is in good health and expected to return to Conakry in the coming days, officials said Monday, amid questions over his absence from the country for more than two weeks.

The 41-year-old leader departed Guinea on February 13 to attend an African Union summit in Addis Ababa and has not yet returned. His extended stay prompted speculation, given his limited public appearances since being formally elected to a seven-year presidential term in December 2025.

Doumbouya, who initially rose to power through a military coup, has maintained a relatively low profile in recent months, making only brief appearances during the election campaign and at polling stations.

His adviser, Thierno Mamadou Bah, said the president used part of his time during the summit for rest and routine medical check-ups. “Everything is going very well,” Bah stated, assuring the public that Doumbouya remains fit to carry out his responsibilities and will soon resume duties in the capital.
