Somalia has evacuated 184 of its citizens stranded in Libya in a government-led repatriation effort.
Somalia evacuated 184 of its citizens stranded in Libya on Tuesday in a government-led repatriation effort supported by the European Union (EU) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the country’s Foreign Ministry said.
“Of those evacuated, 152 arrived at Aden Abdulle International Airport in Mogadishu and 32 landed at Hargeisa Airport,” a Foreign Ministry statement said on Telegram.
The citizens, repatriated as part of Somalia’s ongoing efforts to protect nationals living abroad, had been stranded in Libya under “difficult and challenging conditions,” the ministry said.
The returnees were received at Aden Abdulle International Airport by Second Deputy Prime Minister Jibril Abdirashid Haji Abdi, Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Isaak Mohamud Mursal, other government officials, and EU and IOM representatives.
