Ankara intensifies efforts to contain widening Middle East conflict

Türkiye Steps Up Diplomacy as Fidan Holds Key Regional Calls

Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has intensified diplomatic efforts to contain the escalating Middle East conflict, holding a series of high-level calls with counterparts from Syria, Qatar, and Uzbekistan.

According to diplomatic sources, the discussions focused on the evolving trajectory of the war and possible pathways to halt hostilities, as regional tensions continue to rise.

The conflict, triggered by joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28, has since spread across multiple fronts. Tehran has responded with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel as well as countries hosting US military assets, including Jordan, Iraq, and several Gulf states, causing casualties and disrupting infrastructure, global markets, and aviation.

Fidan’s outreach highlights Türkiye’s increasing role as a diplomatic intermediary, with Ankara seeking to coordinate efforts among regional and global actors to prevent further escalation.

In recent weeks, Türkiye has engaged in extensive consultations with key stakeholders, including Iran, the United States, and the European Union, reinforcing its push to revive dialogue and promote regional stability.
