Allies Refuse to Join Hormuz Security Effort
President Donald Trump has accused NATO allies of doing “absolutely nothing” to help the U.S. confront Iran, calling the alliance a “paper tiger.” Writing on Truth Social, he said America “needs nothing from NATO” but urged people to “never forget” this moment.
Trump has recently urged allies and rivals, including China, to help secure the Strait of Hormuz, where disruptions have driven up global oil prices. Several European countries declined, arguing the conflict was started by Trump without consultation.
At a White House Cabinet meeting, Trump reiterated his disappointment, saying NATO would “never” come to America’s rescue. He recalled warning decades ago that the alliance was a “paper tiger,” insisting the U.S. will act independently if necessary.
