China continues to strengthen ties with African nations amid changing geopolitics and security dynamics.
Zimbabwe has received military weapons from China to further boost its military capabilities.
This is a result of ’’unapparelled strategic partnership'' between the two countries, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa said in a post on the social media platform, X previously known as Twitter.
Details of the terms of the weapons acquisition have not been made clear.
Zimbabwe is currently part of a joint Southern African Development Community mission combating armed groups in the Cabo Delgado region of neighbouring Mozambique.
In recent years, China has stepped up efforts to strengthen ties with African countries mainly in economic areas.
Zimbabwe has been under Western economic sanctions for years with authorities in the southern African country saying such restrictions have hampered economic development and are hurting the ordinary citizens.
Russia and China are among developed economies that have supported Zimbabwe amid the sanctions.
The two countries also previously rejected calls to legitimise the Western sanctions through the United Nations Security Council.
