ECOWAS calls for unity as violence threatens regional stability

West Africa Bloc Condemns Wave of Attacks in Mali

The Economic Community of West African States has strongly condemned a series of coordinated attacks across Mali, calling them “heinous acts” that endanger peace and stability across the entire region.

The attacks hit several key cities, including Bamako, Kati, Mopti, and Gao, with reports of heavy gunfire and explosions. Authorities say these areas are now under military control, while the situation in Kidal remains unclear, with conflicting reports about who is in charge.

There are also unconfirmed reports about the fate of Sadio Camara following an attack near his residence, though officials have not provided clear details.

In its statement from Abuja, ECOWAS expressed condolences to victims’ families and pledged solidarity with Mali’s people and government. The bloc also urged countries across West Africa to work together, calling for a coordinated regional response involving governments, security forces, and citizens.

Mali has been facing ongoing instability due to repeated attacks by armed groups, raising wider concerns about security across the region. ECOWAS and other organizations continue to stress that stronger cooperation is key to tackling these threats.
