Voting closes in Madagascar as opposition slams election

A group of opposition candidates that boycotted a presidential election in Madagascar said on Thursday they do not recognise the vote after polls closed in the Indian Ocean island nation.

"We do not recognise these elections and the Malagasy population in its great majority does not recognise them either," Hajo Andrianainarivelo, 56, told a press conference in the capital, Antananarivo, speaking on behalf of the group which brings together 10 of the 12 opposition candidates in the running.
