Ankara criticizes invasion while Spain calls for UN protection of peacekeepers
Türkiye has strongly condemned Israel’s recent ground offensive in Lebanon, calling it a violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Türkiye’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye described the offensive as part of policies by Benjamin Netanyahu that involve “genocide and collective punishment,” echoing the devastation previously seen in Gaza.
The ministry warned that if these tactics are applied in Lebanon, they could spark a new humanitarian disaster in the region. Türkiye reiterated its solidarity with Lebanon and emphasized its support for the country’s independence and territorial integrity.
Meanwhile, Margarita Robles called on the United Nations to ensure the safety of UN peacekeepers in Lebanon. Spanish troops deployed with UNIFIL are reportedly spending long hours in bunkers but continue carrying out their duties amid ongoing hostilities. Robles confirmed she speaks regularly with the soldiers, describing the situation as difficult and complicated.
Türkiye and Spain’s statements highlight growing international concern over the conflict in Lebanon and the potential risks to civilians and peacekeeping forces.
