Turkish Cypriot president pledges close cooperation with Türkiye for lasting Cyprus settlement

Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) President Tufan Erhurman has pledged to continue working closely with Türkiye towards a lasting settlement on the island.

“We’ll continue working for a just and lasting solution on the island in close consultation and cooperation with Türkiye,” Erhurman said on Friday at the 13th Heads of State Summit of the Organization of Turkic States in Ankara.

He said the TRNC’s efforts aimed to “strengthen peace, stability and cooperation” on the island and throughout the region.

Erhurman emphasised that integrating Turkish Cypriots with the international community and pursuing a settlement were mutually reinforcing processes.

He also expressed hope that the Eastern Mediterranean would become a region defined by mutual respect, inclusive cooperation and shared prosperity, rather than tensions and exclusionary policies.

Erdogan’s remarks on Turkish Cypriot rights

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan earlier also reaffirmed Türkiye’s support for Turkish Cypriots, saying Türkiye would continue to defend their rights and interests and seek an end to their unjust isolation.

He called for expanding the opportunities provided by the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’ observer status in the OTS and strengthening its relations with other Turkic states.
