Live Updates: Gaza hospitals come under new Israeli attacks

4:16 GMT - Israel attacks hospitals in Gaza

Israel has launched air strikes on or near at least three hospitals, further stressing the Palestinian enclave's precarious health system as it struggles to cope with thousands of people wounded or displaced in Israel's war on Gaza.

"The Israeli occupation launched simultaneous strikes on a number of hospitals during the past hours", Gaza Ministry of Health spokesman Ashraf Al-Qidra told Al Jazeera television.

The medical facilities included Gaza's biggest hospital, Al Shifa, where Israel without proof said Hamas has hidden command centres and tunnels, allegations Hamas denies. Qidra said Israel targeted the Gaza City medical complex's courtyard and there were casualties, but he did not provide details.

3:50 GMT - Israel's war on Gaza sends 'over 400,000' Palestinians into poverty

A UN report has painted a stark picture of the collapsing Palestinian economy after a month of war and Israel's near total siege of Gaza.

The gross domestic product shrank 4 percent in the occupied West Bank and besieged Gaza in the war’s first month, sending over 400,000 people into poverty — an economic impact unseen in the conflicts Syria and Ukraine, or any previous Israel-Gaza war.

At least 45 percent of all housing in Gaza has also been damaged or destroyed by Israeli bombardment, according to the assessment released by the UN Development Program and the UN Economic and Social Commission for West Asia.

3:30 GMT - We don't seek to govern Gaza: Israel PM Israel's military is performing "exceptionally well" in its offensive against Hamas in Gaza, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said, stressing Israel does not plan to reoccupy the Palestinian territory.

"I think the Israeli army is performing exceptionally well," he told Fox News, adding: "We don't seek to govern Gaza. We don't seek to occupy it, but we seek to give it and us a better future."

3:00 GMT - Israel uses its Arrow 3 missile interceptor for first time

Israel has said it used one of its most advanced air and missile defence systems for the first time to intercept a missile launched toward Israel in the Red Sea region.

The system, known as the Arrow 3, is designed to intercept long-range missiles outside the atmosphere, according to a joint statement from Israel's military and Ministry of Defense.

Thursday marks the Arrow 3 system’s first missile interception since it was deployed in 2017. Last week, the Arrow 2 system was used to intercept a missile for the first time, the statement said.

2:30 GMT - Palestinian deaths in Gaza may actually be higher than reported: US officials

US officials believe the death toll in Gaza may well be even higher than the more than 10,000 reported by the territory's Health Ministry, Assistant Secretary of State Barbara Leaf told a House panel.

Israeli officials, US President Joe Biden and others have challenged the ministry's figures — which topped more than 10,800 killed in Gaza as of Thursday — as exaggerated without any evidence.

"We think they're very high, frankly, and it could be that they're even higher than are being cited," she said, later adding this was "very possible."

2:00 GMT - Two Israeli captives in Gaza hold Netanyahu responsible for their safety

Two Israeli hostages in Gaza have hold Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responsible for their captivity and safety, according to a video released by resistance fighters.

The video released on Telegram by the Palestinian resistance group Islamic Jihad's military wing, the Al-Quds Brigades, showed Hanna Katzir, 77, and Yagil Yaakov, 13, from Kibbutz Nir Oz.

Katzir held Natanyahu responsible for "the entire problem, for what is happening here, and for the turmoil in the world."
