Talks with Qatar and Saudi Arabia aim to reduce tensions with the US
Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi held phone talks with key regional counterparts as part of ongoing efforts to ease tensions and push for a ceasefire with the United States.
He spoke with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, focusing on recent developments and ways to reduce conflict in the region.
During the calls, Araghchi outlined Iran’s diplomatic efforts to end the conflict and highlighted the main challenges blocking a lasting ceasefire. All sides agreed that regional cooperation and continued dialogue are essential to managing the crisis and promoting stability.
Qatar expressed readiness to help mediate, while Saudi Arabia exchanged views with Iran on the latest situation and ongoing negotiations.
These discussions are part of a broader diplomatic push. Araghchi recently traveled between Muscat and Islamabad, where Pakistan has been playing a mediating role between Iran and the US.
Previous talks between Tehran and Washington did not lead to an agreement, despite a temporary ceasefire earlier in April. Key issues still blocking progress include:
-
Security of the Strait of Hormuz
-
US restrictions on Iranian ports
-
Iran’s nuclear program
The latest outreach shows growing efforts by regional powers to avoid further escalation and find a diplomatic solution.
