Türkiye's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan says Iran felt betrayed after being attacked mid negotiations with the US, but says he believes they are open to a "sensible back-channel diplomacy."

Fidan says he believes Iran open to back-channel diplomacy despite US-Israeli war

Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said negotiations between the United States and Iran are currently stalled, though Tehran may remain open to informal diplomatic channels.

Fidan told The Associated Press that the current conflict makes formal diplomacy difficult, adding that Iranians “feel betrayed” after attacks occurred while nuclear negotiations were underway. He suggested that “sensible back-channel diplomacy” could still be explored.

Türkiye, he said, aims to stay out of the ongoing war despite provocations, maintaining a stance of restraint.

Fidan also criticized Israeli policies, claiming that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu consistently frames regional actors as enemies to advance territorial ambitions rather than security goals.

“As long as Netanyahu is there, (Israel) will always identify somebody as an enemy… They are after not security, they are after more land,” Fidan said, warning that such policies perpetuate conflict in the Middle East.
