Egypt's Sisi arrives in South Korea for talks with Lee

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el Sisi arrived in South Korea on Wednesday for a three-day state visit, during which he is due to hold summit talks with President Lee Jae-myung.Sisi landed at Seoul Air Base, beginning an Asian tour that will also take him to Malaysia and Indonesia, according to the Egyptian presidency.Lee invited the Egyptian leader for the visit, with the two presidents scheduled to meet on Thursday, South Korea's presidential office said, according toYonhap News Agency.The talks are expected to focus on economic cooperation, including trade, investment, infrastructure and supply chains, as well as expanding people-to-people exchanges.Regional political developments and other international issues will also be on the agenda, presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung said.Expanding bilateral tiesSeoul said it hopes the visit will help elevate relations with Egypt to a strategic partnership and strengthen cooperation with Africa and the Middle East.It is Sisi's first visit to South Korea since 2016.

The two leaders last met in Cairo in November 2025 during Lee's visit to Egypt.The two countries have expanded cooperation in trade, investment and the defence industry, while seeking closer cultural and educational ties.
