Opposition candidate pledges to revise agreements that don’t favor Ugandans.

Bobi Wine Promises to Review Uganda’s Oil Deals if Elected

Bobi Wine Uganda’s main opposition presidential candidate, said he would review all agreements with international oil firms if elected and revise any clauses that do not benefit Ugandans. Uganda is expected to start commercial crude oil production later this year, with fields operated by TotalEnergies, CNOOC, and the Uganda National Oil Company coming online under production-sharing agreements.

Wine, a former pop star whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi, is challenging long-time President Yoweri Museveni, 81, who has been in power for 40 years. He highlighted past campaign challenges, including being beaten by security forces and restrictions on campaigning in some areas. Hundreds of his supporters have reportedly been detained, though the government claims all arrests are lawful.

Uganda’s oil reserves are estimated at 6.65 billion barrels, but production has faced repeated delays due to disputes with international firms and environmental opposition.
