South African multi-award-winning singer Makhadzi is recovering in hospital in Polokwane, Limpopo, after being struck by a car while exiting her vehicle in Mokopane, Limpopo province.
The incident occurred on Wednesday as the entertainer, whose real name is Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona, was travelling to Johannesburg for a scheduled performance.
According to the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), Makhadzi had alighted from her vehicle when she was hit by a passing car. She was initially reported to be in a serious but stable condition following the accident.
An update from Makhadzi Entertainment indicates that her condition has since improved. Spokesperson Lucky Tshilimandila said on Facebook the singer is responding well to treatment and showing encouraging signs of recovery.
‘Good sign’
“On behalf of Makhadzi Entertainment, I can confirm that Makhadzi’s situation has improved. She’s doing much better compared to yesterday, and that is a good sign for us. We are thankful for all the messages wishing her a speedy recovery,” Tshilimandila said.
The management team has appealed for privacy for Makhadzi and her family as she continues to recuperate.
Makhadzi is one of South Africa’s most celebrated performers, with a string of awards locally and internationally. She is widely known for chart-topping songs such as “Tshikwama,” “Amadoda,” and “Tshanda Vhuya.”
