11 killed in Russian strikes on Ukraine, as Kiev, Moscow trade attacks overnight

Russian strikes across Ukraine killed at least 11 people on Wednesday, including five in the destruction of a residential building in the northern city of Pryluky, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.Emergency crews searched the rubble of the five-storey apartment block in the Chernihiv region, with fears that the death toll could rise.“There may still be people under the rubble,” Zelenskyy said on social media. “First responders are doing everything possible to find every person.”Two people were also killed when missiles hit high-rise buildings in Dnipro and Kremenchuk, while two others died in Oleksandriya, Zelenskyy said.In Kiev, two people were killed in a fire in the densely populated Darnytskyi district, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko.In the Chernihiv region, Governor Vyacheslav Chaus said at least five people were killed and 25 wounded when a missile struck an apartment building in Pryluky.Poltava Governor Vitaliy Dyakivnych reported two deaths and seven injuries in his region, while Dnipropetrovsk Governor Oleksandr Hanzha said two people were wounded in strikes that damaged an industrial facility, apartment buildings and a sports club.In Zaporizhzhia, a transport infrastructure facility was hit, according to regional Governor Mykhailo Semikin.Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said energy infrastructure was among the main targets, claiming Russia had launched 70 missiles, many of them ballistic, alongside Shahed drones.He said ballistic missiles remained Ukraine’s greatest air defence challenge.Moscow reports Ukrainian retaliation attacksMeanwhile, Russia’s Defence Ministry said on Wednesday its forces had launched a “massive strike” against Ukrainian military-industrial facilities in Kiev and several other regions.The ministry also claimed Russian air defences had downed 311 Ukrainian drones across 16 regions, the Black Sea, the Sea of Azov and Ukraine’s Russian-annexed Crimea.In Russia’s Belgorod region, Governor Alexander Shuvaev said seven people had been injured in Ukrainian strikes over the previous 24 hours.Russian-backed authorities in Horlivka, in the Russian-occupied part of Ukraine’s Donetsk region, reported three injuries from a Ukrainian drone attack.Voronezh Governor Aleksandr Gusev said falling debris damaged a power line, temporarily cutting electricity to several villages.Ukraine’s Air Force said its air defences had shot down 117 of 130 attack drones, as well as 44 ballistic and cruise missiles.The claims could not be independently verified.

Moscow and Kiev have intensified attacks on each other’s logistics centres, ports and energy infrastructure in recent months.Both sides deny deliberately targeting civilians, saying their strikes focus on military targets or facilities linked to military activities.
