Hegseth compares journalists to “Pharisees” and defends military actions
Pete Hegseth sharply criticized the media during a Pentagon briefing, accusing reporters of unfair coverage of the ongoing conflict involving Iran.
He described parts of the press as “incredibly unpatriotic” and compared journalists covering the war to the Pharisees, a biblical group known for opposing Jesus. Hegseth said some media outlets are driven by political bias against President Donald Trump and fail to acknowledge what he called the success of US military operations.
According to Hegseth, the media focuses too heavily on negative aspects of the war while ignoring the achievements of American forces. He argued that this coverage undermines public understanding of the military’s role and sacrifices.
The remarks were delivered during a press briefing at the Pentagon, where he urged journalists to “open their eyes” to what he described as the “brilliance” and “courage” of US troops.
His comments add to ongoing tensions between US defense officials and major media organizations over how the conflict and broader foreign policy actions are being reported.
