Britain urges Israel to halt settler attacks and ease humanitarian restrictions
United Kingdom has strongly criticized increasing violence in the occupied West Bank, warning that it is undermining prospects for peace in the region.
Speaking at the United Nations Security Council, British diplomat James Kariuki said his country “deplores” settler violence against Palestinians and called for urgent accountability.
In simple terms, the UK is saying that attacks on Palestinians are increasing and that not enough is being done to stop or punish those responsible.
Citing UN data, he said dozens of Palestinians have been killed and hundreds injured in recent months due to violence involving Israeli forces and settlers in areas like the West Bank and East Jerusalem. He also warned about forced displacement and evictions that are worsening the situation.
The UK further criticized rapid settlement expansion by Israel, calling it “unprecedented,” and said it weakens the possibility of a two-state solution, which is widely seen as the main path to peace.
Beyond the West Bank, the UK highlighted the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, noting a sharp drop in aid deliveries and restrictions on humanitarian organizations. It urged Israel to allow more medical supplies, shelter materials, fuel, and food into the territory.
The UK’s message overall is that condemnation is not enough—real action is needed to protect civilians, ensure humanitarian access, and revive peace negotiations before the situation deteriorates further.
