Lissu, who came second in the last presidential poll in 2020, was arrested in April 2025 and charged with treason for allegedly inciting the public to boycott last year's elections..
He is representing himself in the case that carries a potential death penalty.
The court allowed the opposition leader to call the Inspector General of Police Camilius Wambura, Chief of Staff of the defence forces Jacob Mkunda and director of the Criminal Investigations Department Ramadhani Kingai as defence witnesses.
Tanzania has been on the spotlight after protests around elections that was held in October, with the opposition saying thousands were killed.
