Shift signalling an imminent end raises questions about whether Washington is already seeking a face-saving exit from the war after claiming its objectives have been met.

Trump signals possible off-ramp from Iran war, claiming 'practically nothing left' to target

Donald Trump says the war involving United States, Israel, and Iran may end soon after weeks of intense military strikes.

In an interview with Axios, Trump said the joint US-Israeli attacks that began on February 28 have already caused more damage than expected. The initial strikes reportedly killed senior Iranian officials, including former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

Trump claimed Iran’s military capacity has been severely weakened, saying the country has lost much of its navy, air force, communications systems, missiles, and drone capabilities. He suggested the war could end quickly, adding that the conflict could stop whenever he decides.

At the same time, the US administration has reportedly asked Israel not to attack Iranian oil facilities. Washington fears that targeting energy infrastructure could trigger large Iranian retaliation against oil facilities in Gulf countries. Trump previously called such strikes a possible “doomsday option.”

However, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said military operations would continue “without any time limit” until Israel achieves all of its objectives.

Iranian officials rejected the idea that Washington can decide when the war ends. Military commander Ali Abdollahi said Iran would continue fighting until its enemies are defeated, while Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stressed that the country will keep fighting to protect national security.

Iran has also ruled out negotiations with the US for now, saying previous talks left the country with a “very bitter experience.”
