Iran signals easing of maritime restrictions amid fragile regional ceasefire

Trump Says Strait of Hormuz Reopens for Full Passage

Donald Trump said that the Strait of Hormuz has been reopened for full commercial passage, following statements from Iran.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote that Iran had announced the waterway was “fully open,” thanking Tehran for the move. The claim followed comments from Abbas Araghchi, who said the Strait had been reopened for all commercial vessels.

Araghchi linked the decision to a broader ceasefire involving Lebanon, saying the move was part of efforts to stabilize regional tensions.

The Strait of Hormuz had previously seen restrictions after conflict escalated between Iran and the United States and Israel, disrupting global energy and shipping routes. The corridor is one of the world’s most critical passages for oil and gas transport.

The latest developments come amid ongoing diplomatic mediation efforts involving Pakistan, which has played a role in facilitating talks between Washington and Tehran. Pakistani military leadership, including Asim Munir, has also reportedly engaged with Iranian officials in recent discussions.

While the announcements suggest de-escalation, the situation remains fluid as ceasefires and diplomatic agreements continue to evolve across the region.
