Ocean Thunder joins safe departures as Ankara works to protect crews

Third Turkish Ship Clears Strait of Hormuz

Turkey’s Transport Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that a third Turkish-owned vessel has safely passed through the Strait of Hormuz amid the ongoing regional conflict. The Ocean Thunder, carrying crude oil from Iraq to Malaysia, made the transit thanks to coordination between Turkish authorities and the Foreign Ministry.

The number of Turkish-owned ships waiting near the strait has now dropped to 12, with eight vessels actively seeking departure clearance. Together, they carry 156 crew members whose safety remains a top priority. Officials say monitoring and support efforts will continue until all ships are secure.

The Strait of Hormuz has been under tight restrictions since the US–Israel offensive on Iran in late February, which triggered Iranian retaliation and heightened risks for commercial shipping.
