Sudan's ambassador praises Türkiye for its constructive role in seeking a peaceful resolution to the conflict that has killed thousands and displaced millions of people.

Sudan 'compiling evidence' against RSF for war crimes charges at ICC

Sudanese ambassador to Türkiye says his country is compiling evidence against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) that it will present to the International Criminal Court (ICC) for charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Ambassador , Nadir Yousif Al-Tayeb made the remarks on Thursday during a panel discussion in Ankara titled “The Quest for Peace in Sudan”, organised by Türkiye’s Directorate of Communications.

The event brought together officials, academics, and Sudanese representatives, and was opened by the Director of Communications, Prof. Burhanettin Duran.

Sudan’s civil war has killed more than 20,000 people and displaced over 15 million, triggering one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. Despite repeated diplomatic efforts, a permanent ceasefire remains out of reach.

One of the most visible perpetrators of the violence is a Sudanese paramilitary commander implicated in the execution of thousands of civilians in the western city of Al Fasher.

The fighter — known as Abu Lulu — has appeared in multiple videos that show him shooting civilians at point-blank range, earning the grim nickname “the Butcher of Al-Fasher.”

“The RSF is challenging the international community by filming themselves committing these crimes,” Al-Tayeb told TRT Afrika. “We have lawyers working on this case, and they will take evidence of these crimes to the International Criminal Court.”

Al-Tayeb urged the international community not to abandon Sudan at what he described as a critical moment, praising Türkiye for its constructive role in seeking a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

“We, as Sudan, want Türkiye to fully join the mediation efforts because Türkiye is non-aligned and unbiased,” he told TRT Afrika.

Türkiye continues to play a key role in mediation — providing dialogue platforms and pushing for diplomatic solutions to end the conflict that erupted in April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary RSF.
