Libyan media report say people close to Saif al-Islam Gaddafi have confirmed his death.

Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, the son of Libya's late leader Muammar Gaddafi, has died, Libyan media reported on Tuesday, without providing details on his death.

TV channel al-Ahrar said people close to him confirmed his death "without revealing the circumstances", while state news agency LANA cited his adviser, Abdallah Othman, as also confirming the death.

Saif al-Islam had long been seen as his father's successor. In 2021, he announced he would run for president, but those elections were indefinitely postponed.
