Putin reassures Iran of cooperation as tensions remain despite ceasefire
Vladimir Putin has told Iran’s top diplomat that Russia will do everything it can to support peace efforts in the Middle East. The statement came during a meeting in Saint Petersburg with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
Putin emphasized that Russia wants stability not just for Iran, but for the entire region, and reaffirmed the strong strategic relationship between the two countries. He also praised Iran’s resilience in defending its sovereignty.
On the other side, Araghchi blamed the United States for the failure of recent peace talks, saying Washington did not achieve its goals in the conflict. He suggested that this is why the U.S. is now open to negotiations, adding that Iran is considering its next steps.
Even though a ceasefire is currently holding, tensions remain high, and the future of negotiations is uncertain. Both Russia and Iran signaled that their cooperation will continue as they navigate the ongoing situation.
In simple terms, Russia is positioning itself as a supportive partner to Iran while calling for peace, but disagreements between global powers are still slowing down a long-term solution.
