Safronkov Says Moscow Taking Steps
Russian Ambassador-at-Large Vladimir Safronkov said Monday that Moscow is ready to mediate in the escalating Middle East conflict and is already taking steps toward a political settlement. He noted that Russia maintains “almost daily” contacts with all parties, offering proposals to address concerns over Iran’s nuclear program.
Safronkov praised Türkiye, Egypt, and Pakistan for their diplomatic efforts, stressing that history shows forceful solutions only deepen crises. He warned that hostilities in the Persian Gulf are worsening conditions in Gaza and undermining broader regional stability.
He also said organizing a Russian-Arab summit is “a highly relevant task” now under discussion. On US President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan, Safronkov argued it remains relevant, though key elements—such as a Palestinian national committee and stabilization forces—have not been implemented.
Commenting on the Abraham Accords, he cautioned that bloc-style alliances risk confrontation, urging instead a “positive, unifying agenda.”
