Pope Leo has made an impassioned plea for an immediate ceasefire in the expanding Iran war, lamenting "atrocious violence."
Pope Leo issued a heartfelt plea on Sunday for an immediate ceasefire in the ongoing Iran war, decrying the "atrocious violence" that has killed thousands of civilians and displaced many more across the region.
Speaking at his weekly Angelus prayer in St. Peter's Square, the pope emphasized that continued warfare will not bring the justice, stability, or peace sought by the people of the Middle East.
"For two weeks, the peoples of the Middle East have been suffering the atrocious violence of war," he said. "In the name of all women and men of good will, I appeal to those responsible for this conflict: Cease fire!"
Pope Leo also expressed concern over the situation in Lebanon, where hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel have caused significant civilian suffering. He called for dialogue to help Lebanese authorities implement lasting solutions for the benefit of all citizens.
