12 feared dead as aircraft bound for Maasai Mara goes down near Diani

Small Plane Crashes in Kenya’s Coastal Region

A small plane crashed early Tuesday in Kwale County, Kenya, while flying to the popular tourist destination of Maasai Mara National Reserve. Authorities fear that all 12 passengers onboard may have died.

The aircraft went down in a hilly, forested area roughly 40 kilometres from Diani airstrip. Kwale County Commissioner Stephen Orinde confirmed that rescue and recovery operations are ongoing and said more details will be released as the situation develops.

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority is investigating the cause of the crash, but no official explanation has yet been provided.
