Military offensive kills dozens as mass kidnappings continue in Zamfara
Nigeria’s military has stepped up its fight against armed criminal groups, killing more than 65 bandits in a large-scale operation in Zamfara State.
The assault, described as a “major breakthrough,” involved a coordinated seven-hour ground and air campaign in the Tsafe district. It comes as authorities face mounting pressure to curb persistent violence by armed gangs known locally as bandits, who regularly carry out kidnappings, raids, and arson attacks across the region.
Earlier in the week, a mass abduction was reported in the Bukkuyum area, where gunmen attacked multiple villages. While official figures remain unconfirmed, residents estimate that around 150 people were kidnapped and several others killed.
Security forces have launched a manhunt for the perpetrators, as concerns grow over the continued instability affecting Zamfara and surrounding areas.
The operation underscores ongoing efforts by Nigerian authorities to dismantle organized criminal networks and restore security in one of the country’s most troubled regions.
