Nearly half of news articles about Muslims in 2025 showed some level of bias, according to a major media monitoring report.
A new report by the Centre for Media Monitoring has found that a significant number of news articles about Muslims in the United Kingdom contained biased language or perspectives.
Researchers analysed more than 40,000 articles published in 2025 across 30 major British media outlets. The study found that around 20,000 of the 40,913 articles reviewed showed some form of bias.
According to the report, nearly 70 percent of the coverage linked Muslims or Islam with negative behaviour or social issues.
The study also identified several right-leaning outlets responsible for a significant share of the biased coverage. Among them, The Spectator recorded the highest proportion of strongly biased articles. Other outlets cited include GB News, The Telegraph, The Jewish Chronicle, Daily Express, The Sun, Daily Mail and The Times.
Rizwana Hamid, director of the Centre for Media Monitoring, said the findings point to a troubling pattern in how Muslims are portrayed in sections of the British media.
She warned that the results suggest the presence of structural bias in parts of the UK press and called for greater accountability and balanced reporting when covering Muslim communities.
