Randrianirina reshuffles government as country prepares for elections
Madagascar’s President Michael Randrianirina has unveiled a new 30-member Cabinet, marking a significant political reshuffle following the dismissal of the previous government and prime minister.
The new administration, announced at Lavoloha Palace near Antananarivo, blends continuity and renewal, with 17 ministers retained and 13 new faces joining the government. The inclusion of nine women reflects an effort to enhance representation within the executive.
The reshuffle comes after the appointment of Prime Minister Mamitiana Rajaonarison, a former anti-corruption official, signaling a renewed emphasis on governance reforms and institutional accountability.
It represents Randrianirina’s first major reorganization since assuming power after protests forced former president Andry Rajoelina from office last October.
The government is now tasked with guiding the country through a transitional phase under the “Refoundation of the Republic” framework, with elections scheduled for next year.
The move underscores Madagascar’s ongoing political transition as authorities aim to stabilize the state and pave the way for a return to democratic rule.
