Brazilian leader calls for fairer decision-making at international summit
Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva strongly criticized powerful countries at a global meeting in Spain, accusing them of making decisions without consulting the rest of the world.
Speaking at the “Meeting in Defence of Democracy,” Lula targeted members of the United Nations Security Council, especially its permanent members, saying they often act unilaterally instead of following international cooperation rules.
He warned against global instability driven by powerful leaders, indirectly referring to Donald Trump, and criticized decision-making that bypasses the United Nations.
Lula also showed support for Cyril Ramaphosa after reports that the U.S. excluded South Africa from the upcoming G20 summit. He argued that no single country has the authority to decide who participates in such global forums.
Other leaders at the event included Claudia Sheinbaum, Pedro Sanchez, and Gustavo Petro. The gathering focused on defending democracy and strengthening international cooperation at a time of rising political tensions worldwide.
The meeting continued with a larger event bringing together thousands of progressive politicians, experts, and activists to discuss global challenges and future cooperation.
