Deal aims to boost renewables and energy exports

Kazakhstan Ratifies Green Energy Pact with Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan

Kazakhstan’s Senate ratified a green energy partnership agreement with Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan on Thursday, finalizing a deal first signed in November 2024 at the UN Climate Conference in Baku.

Senate chairman Maulen Ashimbayev said the agreement will strengthen energy security, diversify transit routes, and promote sustainable growth. It outlines joint work on renewable energy development, energy efficiency technologies, and infrastructure for exporting clean power to Europe and other markets.

The three countries plan to set up a special working group to coordinate projects and enhance effectiveness. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev previously described the pact as opening “new opportunities for integration of energy systems” and creating reliable corridors for environmentally friendly energy supplies.

Kazakhstan’s lower house ratified the deal last month, clearing the way for implementation.
