Ceasefire excludes Lebanon as fighting continues

Israel Backs Trump’s Pause on Iran Strikes

Israel has voiced support for US President Donald Trump’s decision to suspend military strikes against Iran for two weeks, but stressed that the ceasefire does not apply to Lebanon.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said Israel backs the pause “subject to Iran immediately opening the straits and stopping all attacks on the US, Israel and countries in the region.” It also reaffirmed support for US efforts to curb Iran’s nuclear, missile, and terror threats.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who helped broker the truce, announced that US and Iranian delegations will meet in Islamabad on Friday, with all sides agreeing to halt fighting across multiple conflict zones.

Israel, however, continues its ground offensive and airstrikes in southern Lebanon, launched after Hezbollah’s cross-border attack on March 2. Lebanese authorities report at least 1,497 killed and 4,639 injured since then. Hezbollah has fired rockets into Israel, saying the attacks respond to ongoing strikes and the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a joint US-Israeli strike on February 28.
