Star defender faces race against time after thigh injury in Champions League clash
Achraf Hakimi, one of Morocco’s key football players, has been ruled out for several weeks after suffering a thigh injury while playing for Paris Saint-Germain.
The injury happened late in a tense Champions League semi-final match against Bayern Munich. With no substitute available, Hakimi had to stay on the field until the final whistle, which may have worsened the injury.
As a result, he is expected to miss the second leg of the match on May 6 and could also miss a possible final later in the month. His absence could give Bayern Munich an advantage in the return game, despite PSG winning the first leg 5–4.
More importantly, this raises concerns for Morocco ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026, which kicks off soon in North America. Morocco’s first match is scheduled for June 13 against Brazil, and Hakimi’s fitness will be crucial.
With only a few weeks to recover, it’s now a race against time for the defender to be fit in time for both club and country.
