Ibrahim Mahama gives his old aircraft to serve as an air ambulance across Ghana.

Summary:
Ghanaian businessman Ibrahim Mahama has donated his private jet to be used as an air ambulance in Ghana after purchasing a new aircraft, the Bombardier Global 6500. The donation was announced when he received the new jet at Kotoka International Airport in Accra.

According to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, Mahama said his old plane would now serve every Ghanaian as an air ambulance. The move comes as the Ghana National Ambulance Service plans to expand emergency services by adding hundreds of new ambulances and medical motorbikes.

The businessman had previously used his jet during emergencies, including helping transport victims of a helicopter crash that killed several officials, among them Edward Omane Boamah and Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.

While many Ghanaians praised the donation as a generous act that could improve emergency response, some questioned whether an air ambulance might mainly benefit wealthier citizens.

Mahama, brother of John Mahama, is one of West Africa’s leading entrepreneurs. His company Engineers & Planners, founded in 1997, operates in sectors such as mining, construction, and agriculture.
