Shock decision comes just weeks before crucial opening match

Ghana Sacks Coach Otto Addo Ahead of World Cup

Ghana has dismissed head coach Otto Addo less than three months before the FIFA World Cup 2026.

The Ghana Football Association confirmed the decision, saying the two sides had “parted ways” with immediate effect, without giving detailed reasons or naming a replacement.

The move follows a series of poor results, including a 2–1 loss to Germany and a heavy 5–1 defeat to Austria. Ghana has now lost four friendly matches in a row, raising concerns about the team’s form ahead of the tournament.

Addo was in his second stint as coach, having previously led the team during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. As a player, he had a strong career in Germany, winning the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund and representing Ghana at the 2006 World Cup.

Now, Ghana faces uncertainty as it prepares for the competition. The team is set to play in Group L alongside Croatia, England, and Panama, with its first match scheduled for June 17 in Toronto.

With little time left, the focus shifts to finding a new coach and rebuilding confidence before the tournament begins.
