Ghana's Foreign Ministry says two Ghanaian nationals were injured in a drone incident near Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday.
Two citizens of Ghana were injured after drones fell near Dubai International Airport in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, according to Ghana’s Foreign Ministry.
Officials said the two Ghanaians were hurt when two drones landed close to the airport area. Their injuries are not life-threatening, and they are expected to recover. Dubai authorities reported that four people were injured in total, including the two Ghanaians, one Bangladeshi with minor injuries, and one Indian national who was moderately injured.
Dubai’s media office said the drones were launched from Iran. Despite the incident, air traffic at the airport continued to operate normally.
The attack comes during rising tensions in the Middle East following joint military strikes by United States and Israel against Iran on February 28. Since the conflict began, the UAE says its defence systems have detected more than 1,400 drones launched from Iran, intercepting most of them before they reached targets.
Iran has also launched drone and missile attacks toward several countries in the region, including Israel, Jordan, and Iraq, as part of its retaliation.
Ghana’s government condemned the drone incident and advised its citizens in the region to remain vigilant as the conflict continues.
