The arrivals highlight Washington’s expanding third-country deportation agreements with several African nations.

Eswatini Receives Four US Deportees Under Migration Deal

Four men deported from the United States have arrived in Eswatini under Washington’s third-country migrant deportation programme, according to officials. The group includes two Somali nationals, one Tanzanian and one Sudanese, transferred to the southern African kingdom as part of broader migration arrangements between the US and several African states.

Authorities confirmed that the men were taken to the maximum-security Matsapha Correctional Centre near the capital, Mbabane, where they are currently undergoing administrative and social orientation. Officials indicated that the deportees arrived in good health.

Eswatini had previously received 15 deportees in 2025 under similar agreements. According to reports, the country agreed to accept up to 160 deportees in exchange for financial assistance from the United States, intended to strengthen border control and migration management capacities.

The Eswatini government says the migrants are being held temporarily while arrangements are finalized for their return to their respective countries of origin. Several African nations, including Rwanda, Ghana, South Sudan and Equatorial Guinea, have also participated in the US deportation framework.
