Eritrea has called for an "unequivocal" response from the UN Security Council over Israel's recognition of Somaliland, warning that the move could inflame regional and global instability.
The Information Ministry said in a statement on Sunday that the "ploy" was not a "novel secret" but had been "brewing" for some time, and risks provoking "dangerous regional and global crises, and mayhem."
"As such, it warrants unequivocal response at the level of the UN Security Council and its members," the statement added.
On Friday, Israel announced its recognition of Somaliland, prompting criticism from Somalia, several other countries as well as the African Union.
UN Security Council to discuss matter on Monday
Somaliland broke away from Somalia in 1991, a move neither recognised by Mogadishu nor the international community.
Eritrea and Somalia restored diplomatic relations in 2018 after years of tensions, and have since strengthened cooperation on security and regional integration.
The Security Council is expected to discuss Israel’s recognition of Somaliland in an emergency session on Monday.
