Türkiye intensifies regional dialogue with Pakistan and Qatar to preserve fragile truce and prevent further escalation in the Middle East.

Erdoğan Engages in High-Level Diplomacy to Safeguard Iran Ceasefire

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held separate phone conversations with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to address the ongoing ceasefire involving Iran and broader regional tensions.

During discussions with Sharif, Erdoğan commended Pakistan’s pivotal mediation efforts that contributed to securing a temporary truce. He stressed that the current two-week ceasefire represents a critical window that must be effectively utilized to advance lasting peace. Sharif, in response, acknowledged Türkiye’s diplomatic engagement as both leaders assessed recent developments surrounding the agreement.

In a separate exchange with the Qatari emir, Erdoğan underscored the importance of the ceasefire as a rare opportunity for de-escalation. He cautioned against missing this moment, urging all parties to prioritize dialogue and constructive negotiations. The Turkish president also reaffirmed Ankara’s commitment to fostering regional stability through sustained diplomatic initiatives.

Erdoğan further extended condolences to Qatar following recent attacks and praised Doha’s restrained and measured response amid rising tensions.

These diplomatic efforts come against the backdrop of escalating instability triggered by U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran, followed by retaliatory actions from Tehran, including attacks on Israel and states hosting U.S. military assets. Iran also imposed restrictions on maritime traffic through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, raising global concerns over energy security.

With Pakistan playing a mediating role, the United States and Iran have agreed to a temporary ceasefire, while further negotiations aimed at a long-term resolution are expected to take place in Islamabad.
