Drone attack on Colombian Army base kills three soldiers, wounds eight

Three Colombian Army soldiers have been killed and eight others seriously injured in an attack involving explosive-laden drones targeting military installations in the municipality of Santa Rosa, in the country's southern Bolivar region, the army's First Division said on Saturday.

The attack targeted facilities at a military canton using drones modified to carry explosive devices, according to an army statement.

Security protocols were activated immediately, while military personnel began assessing the damage and establishing the full extent of the casualties.

Other soldiers were also affected and are receiving medical treatment at healthcare facilities, the army said.

Army condemns attack and calls for information

The First Division condemned the incident, describing it as a serious violation of international humanitarian law and human rights.

It urged the public to provide timely information that could help authorities anticipate and prevent further violence against civilians and members of the security forces.

Authorities also encouraged citizens to report relevant information through Colombia's anti-terrorism hotline.

The circumstances surrounding the attack and the identity of those responsible were not specified in the army's statement.
