Regional tensions escalate as Arab leaders criticize Iranian strikes and call them a “strategic mistake.”

Arab League Condemns Iran’s Attacks on Gulf States

The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, has strongly condemned Iran’s attacks on several Gulf countries, calling them reckless and a “massive strategic mistake.” Speaking during an emergency meeting of Arab foreign ministers in Cairo, he said the strikes could not be justified and warned that Arab states are not part of the current conflict.

The escalation began after joint military strikes by United States and Israel on Iran on February 28. In response, Iran launched missiles and drones targeting U.S.-linked bases and sites across the Gulf region, including in Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain. Some attacks caused casualties and damage to infrastructure such as fuel tanks and water facilities.

Arab leaders said their countries had previously worked to avoid conflict, including mediation efforts by Oman, but warned that the region is now facing increasing instability.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran would continue responding to attacks if necessary. U.S. President Donald Trump, however, suggested negotiations may no longer be possible, saying the war could continue until Iran’s military and leadership are no longer functioning.
