Surge in arrivals highlights continent’s rising appeal as top travel destination

Africa Leads Global Tourism Growth in 2025

Africa has emerged as the world’s fastest-growing tourism region in 2025, recording a 12% increase in international arrivals during the first half of the year, according to UN Tourism data.

The growth was driven by strong performances across both major regions, with North Africa posting a 14% rise and Sub-Saharan Africa recording an 11% increase, reflecting renewed global interest in the continent’s diverse travel offerings.

At the country level, Morocco stood out with a 19% surge in tourist arrivals, placing it among the top-performing destinations worldwide, just behind leading markets such as Japan and Vietnam.

Globally, tourism continues its recovery, with 690 million international travelers recorded between January and June 2025—an increase of 5% compared to the previous year and exceeding pre-pandemic levels.

Despite ongoing economic pressures and geopolitical uncertainties, UN Tourism remains optimistic, projecting global tourism growth of between 3% and 5% for the full year.

The latest figures underscore Africa’s growing importance in the global tourism landscape, as the continent strengthens its position as a key destination for international travelers.
