The knockout phase of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations begins on January 3 in Morocco after an exciting group stage. The Round of 16 will run from January 3 to January 6, with two matches played each day as teams fight for a spot in the quarter-finals.
The opening match will see the 2021 champions Senegal national football team face the Sudan national football team in Tangier. Later that evening, the Mali national football team will take on the Tunisia national football team in Casablanca. Mali hopes to win its first continental title, while Tunisia aims to repeat its 2004 AFCON victory.
On Sunday, host nation Morocco national football team will play the Tanzania national football team in Rabat. Supported by a strong home crowd, Morocco is hoping to win its first AFCON title in about 50 years. Later that day, the South Africa national football team will face the Cameroon national football team. South Africa’s coach Hugo Broos will meet Cameroon, the team he led to victory in the 2017 AFCON tournament.
Monday’s matches include the record seven-time champions Egypt national football team against the Benin national football team. Egypt has not won the tournament since 2010 and is determined to end that long wait. Later, the Nigeria national football team will play the Mozambique national football team after a strong performance during the group stage.
The final two Round of 16 matches will be played on Tuesday. The Algeria national football team will meet the DR Congo national football team, followed by defending champions Ivory Coast national football team facing the Burkina Faso national football team.
The quarter-finals are scheduled for January 9 and 10, and the tournament final will be played on January 18 at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdellah in Rabat.
