Experts demand full investigation into global trafficking allegations

UN Calls for Accountability in Epstein Case

United Nations human rights experts have called for a full and transparent investigation into serious allegations linked to Jeffrey Epstein.

In a joint statement, UN rapporteurs said they are deeply concerned about credible claims that young women and girls were systematically trafficked and abused. They stressed the need for accountability, especially as the allegations reportedly involve influential figures from politics, business, and academia.

The experts highlighted major failures in how authorities handled the case, including not properly protecting victims, investigating crimes, or prosecuting those responsible. They also warned that such crimes reflect deeper issues like abuse of power and lack of accountability.

The statement urged countries to take stronger action against human trafficking, emphasizing that protecting victims and preventing exploitation is a legal and moral responsibility under international law.

Epstein had been facing charges of sexually abusing underage girls and running a trafficking network before he was found dead in prison in 2019. Authorities, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, concluded that he died by suicide, though the case continues to raise questions and public concern.

UN rapporteurs, who are independent experts under the Human Rights Council, play a key role in monitoring global human rights issues and pushing for accountability in cases like this.
