Damascus and Aleppo see renewed regional connectivity
Syria’s civil aviation authority announced that 12 airlines have resumed operations to Damascus and Aleppo, signaling a gradual recovery of the country’s aviation sector after years of conflict. Carriers including Turkish Airlines, flydubai, Royal Jordanian, Qatar Airways, and Air Arabia are among those now flying to Syrian airports, alongside domestic operators.
Officials say transit traffic through Syrian airspace has also improved, reflecting growing reliance on the routes. The authority credited enhanced safety standards and navigation systems for the revival, while stressing that restoring flights to Europe remains a key priority. Air traffic collapsed in 2012 amid the civil war, but the transitional government formed in 2025 is working with international aviation bodies to re‑assess airports and re‑open vital connections.
