Türkiye reaffirms support for multilateral diplomacy and calls for a more inclusive United Nations.

Erdoğan Honors UN Chief Guterres with Atatürk Peace Award

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has awarded the Atatürk International Peace Award to UN Secretary-General António Guterres during a ceremony in Ankara, recognizing his efforts to promote global peace and multilateral cooperation.

In his speech, Erdoğan praised Guterres’ role in encouraging dialogue and strengthening international stability, while reiterating Türkiye’s commitment to supporting the United Nations and its mission. He stressed that justice remains a key foundation for achieving lasting peace, development and stability.

The Turkish president also called for reforms to make the UN more inclusive and representative, arguing that the organization should better reflect the realities of today’s global political landscape.

Erdoğan further underlined Türkiye’s diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East, warning that escalating confrontation around Iran could risk triggering a wider regional crisis. Ankara, he said, will continue working through diplomacy to support dialogue and prevent further escalation.
